This specimen was lot 34684 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Bavaria. Maximilian II Emanuel gold Goldgulden 1702 MS64 NGC, Fully struck-up on a small, honeyed-gold flan and rendered with striking portraiture that lends well to the prominent mint brilliance circulating this near-Gem Mint State offering. From the Long Island Collection." This type of 1698-1704 and 1715 is scarce. It is listed in Friedberg as a max d'or, a term used in the SCWC for a coin weighing 6.65 g, 0.900 fine gold and issued after 1715. There was also the carolin d'or (Fr-229), issued after 1726, which weighed 9.7 g, .770 fine gold. None of these coins were for the peasants.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.903 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW.
