Sincona sale 95, lot 4077

This specimen was lot 4077 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Batzen 1806, Basel. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, batzen of 1806, Basel mint. About Mint State.)"

This type was struck 1805-06 and 1809-10 while the canton was under Napoleonic domination. Forty batzen made a thaler; during the ancient regime, thirty batzen made a convention thaler.

Specification: 2.52 g, billon, 23.5 mm diameter, this specimen 2.67 g.
