Sincona sale 47, lot 2574

This specimen was lot 2574 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$168 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Basel, Stadt und Kanton Basel, Halbbatzen 1809. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Minimaler Kratzer. (city and canton of Basel, half batzen of 1809. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated, Minimal scratch.)"

This type was struck 1809 only while the canton was under Napoleonic domination. It is fairly common. Forty batzen made a thaler.
