Basel 1795 thaler Dav-1758
This specimen was lot 4076 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1795, Basel. Ovales Wappen mit Hut und Girlande auf Konsole. Rv. Drei Zeilen Schrift und Jahreszahl in römischen Lettern in Eichenlaubkranz. Randschrift. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, thaler of 1795, Basel mint. Obverse: oval hatted arms on a console, garland around; reverse: date and motto in wreath. Lettered edge. Very Fine.)"
This thaler was also struck in 1796. It does not seem to conform to the convention thaler standard (28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver).
