Sincona Auction 105, lot 3102

This specimen was lot 3102 in Sincona Auction 105 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$610 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1796, Basel. Randschrift. Gutes sehr schön. Feine Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, thaler of 1796, Basel mint, with edge lettering. Good Very Fine, Nicely toned.)"

This thaler was also struck in 1795. It does not seem to conform to the convention thaler standard (28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver). In 1798, the French occupied Switzerland and terminated cantonal independence.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 25.77 g, silver, 41 mm diameter, this specimen 25.84 g.
