Künker sale 386, lot 5699

This specimen was lot 5699 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,360 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ, BASEL, Stadt. Taler 1793. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Hübsche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. (Switzerland, city of Basel, thaler of 1793. Scarce in this quality, outstanding example, handsome patina, about uncirculated.)"

Two thalers were struck in Basel in 1793; Dav-1756 shows the basilisk facing right. This one is priced about half that of Dav-1756.
