Sincona sale 4, lot 5493

This specimen was lot 5493 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$798 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt Taler 1639. Baselstab in einem Vierpass. Rv. Nach links blickender, auffliegender Adler. Überdurchschnittliche und attraktive Erhaltung. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city of Basel, thaler of 1639. Obverse: Basel flower in quadrilobe; reverse: eagle displayed. Attractive very fine to extremely fine.)"

The SCWC notes this type for 1623-24 and 1638-39; the latter two dates are rare.
