This specimen is one of a type struck at the Royal mint for the Bahamas 1966-70. Subsequent fifty cents (KM 21) had a revised obverse legend and in 1974 the bust of the queen was dropped in favor of the arms of the Bahamas. The Franklin Mint produced this denomination 1971-85 and the silver was eliminated in 1974. The sailfish reverse makes this coin a popular souvenir for sunburned tourists.
Recorded mintage: 701,000.
Specification: 10.37 g, 0.800 fine silver, 29 mm diameter.
