Baden 1845 gulden KM-219
This specimen was lot 1623 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Baden-Durlach, Markgrafschaft, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum. Leopold, 1830-1852. Gulden 1845, Karlsruhe. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Leopold, 1830-52, gulden of 1845, Karlsruhe mint. About Uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"
Napoleon rewarded the margrave of Baden's sycophantic loyalty by elevating him to grand duke and tripling his territory. The state survived until the collapse of the Wilhelmine empire in 1918. This is a continuation of the gulden of 1842-45 (KM 214), which was 12.72 g, 0.750 fine silver. This type was struck in substantial numbers 1845-52 and this is a common date. Both KM 214 and KM 219 have the same amount of silver.
Recorded mintage: 438,840 including KM 214.
Specification: 10.60 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 10.53 g.
