Baden 1839 gulden
This specimen was lot 1106 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$180 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Baden-Durlach, Markgrafschaft, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum. Leopold, 1830-1852. Gulden 1839, Karlsruhe. Fast FDC. Winziger Kratzer. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Leopold, 1830-52, gulden of 1839, Karlsruhe mint. About uncirculated, Tiny scratches.)"
This is a fairly common type struck for the grand duke 1837-41. In 1845, the weight was reduced and the fineness increased in accordance with the requirements of the vereinsmunze. The last gulden was struck in 1867. Baden survived as a coin-issuing state until the destruction of the German empire in 1918.
