Austria 1938 25 schilling
This specimen was lot 3443 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 28,000 CHF (about US$37,473 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OSTERREICH, I. Republik, 1918-1938. 25 Schilling 1938, Wien. Sehr selten. Nur 1'357 Exemplare geprägt. NGC MS63+. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar (Austria, first republic, 1918-38, twenty-five schilling of 1938, Vienna mint. Very rare. Only 1,357 pieces struck, Finest certified by NGC)." The SCWC, which lists this type for 1935-38, does not price this coin except in uncirculated, suggesting that it spent its life in bank vaults before entering the collector market. It may have been sold in sets with the "Mariazell" 100 schilling.
Recorded mintage: 1,357.
Specification: 5.88 g, 0.900 fine gold, .170 troy oz AGW.
