Sincona sale 100, lot 1098

This specimen was lot 1098 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 41,000 CHF (about US$61,795 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH I. Republik, 1918-1938. 100 Schilling 1938, Wien. Nimbierter Doppeladler mit dem österreichischen Wappenschild auf der Brust, oben OESTERREICH, unten 100 SCHILLING. Rv. MAGNA MATER AUSTRIA Madonna mit Christuskind in Strahlenkranz von vorne und auf Wolken schwebend, unten die Jahreszahl. Von grösster Seltenheit. NGC PL64. Prachtvoller Erstabschlag. Das durch NGC zweithöchstbewertete Exemplar. (first republic of Austria, 1918-38, one hundred schilling of 1938, Vienna mint. Obverse: nimbate double headed eagle with Austrian arms on its breast, value below; reverse: haloed Madonna and Child, date below. Of the highest rarity, Magnificent first strike, Second finest certified by NGC.)"

This type was struck in limited numbers 1935-38 just prior to the anschluss with Nazi Germany. It is accompanied by a silver five schilling (KM 2853).
