Austria 1924 20 kronen
This specimen was lot 23045 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 20 Korona, 1924. Vienna Mint. NGC MS-64. A fairly SCARCE one-year type, this impressive specimen dazzles with charming brilliance and a soft golden-yellow hue. Only a few scattered carbon spots likely prevent a tantalizing Gem designation." This type was issued briefly 1923-24. Altho it is noted as having circulated, it and the accompanying hundred kronen (KM 2831) seem more likely to have been hoarded, given the instability of the regime. It is today rare.
Recorded mintage: 10,337.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.196 troy oz AGW.
