Sincona sale 101, lot 3439

This specimen was lot 3439 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 3,750 CHF (about US$5,652 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH I. Republik, 1918-1938. 100 Kronen 1924, Wien. Selten. Nur 2'851 Exemplare geprägt. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Berieben und leicht Fassungsspuren. (first republic of Austria, 1918-38, hundred crowns of 1924, Vienna mint. Rare. Only 2,851 specimens struck, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Polished and slight traces of jewelry.)"

This type was struck in small numbers 1923-24 to continue the old Austro-Hungarian 100 coronas (KM 2819) before the post-WWI inflation made any kind of gold coinage hopeless. In 1925, the currency was reformed with 100 kronen (old) = 1 groschen (new) and 100 groschen = 1 schilling.

Recorded mintage: 2,851 plus proofs.

Specification: 33.88 g, 0.900 fine gold, .980 troy oz AGW, 37 mm diameter, reeded edge, this specimen 33.59 g.

Catalog reference: KM 2831, Herinek 2, Fr-518.
