Austria 1923 100 kronen
This specimen is lot 1663 in Jean Elsen sale 103 (Brussels, December 2009), where it sold for 1,550 euro. The catalog description[1] noted,
"AUTRICHE, République (1918- ), AV 100 couronnes, 1923, Seulement 617 p. frappées. Très Rare. Légère trace de bélière. Très Beau à Superbe" (Republic of Austria, gold 100 kronen, 1923, only 671 pieces struck. Very Rare, small trace of mounting, Very Fine to Extremely Fine).
This type was struck in small numbers 1923-24 to continue the old Austro-Hungarian 100 coronas (KM 2819) before the post-WWI inflation made any kind of gold coinage hopeless. In 1925, the currency was reformed with 100 kronen (old) = 1 groschen (new) and 100 groschen = 1 schilling.
Recorded mintage: 617.
Specification: 33.875 g, 0.900 fine gold, .980 troy oz AGW.
