Sincona sale 83, lot 3432

This specimen was lot 3432 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,271 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OSTERREICH, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1913, Wien. NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar. Das neben weiteren durch NGC zweithöchstbewertete Exemplar (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ducat of 1913, Vienna mint. Cabinet piece, Tied with others for second finest certified by NGC)." This type was struck 1872-1915 in substantial numbers but the 1915 restrike is most commonly seen.
