This specimen was lot 5324 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $253. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria. 5 Corona, 1909. Franz Joseph. Large head, right. NGC graded MS-61." The Austrian government issued two different coins of this denomination in 1909 in about equal quantities. The second specimen was lot 71570 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[2] noted, "AUSTRIA. 5 Corona, 1909. Vienna Mint. Franz Joseph I. NGC MS-62. Small head [sic] variety. This nice piece yields good luster and limited signs of contact and handling."

Recorded mintage: 1,708,800.

Specification: 24 g, 0.900 fine silver, .694 troy oz AGW, lettered edge.
