Sincona sale 97, lot 2083

This specimen was lot 2083 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 170 CHF (about US$247 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 2 Gulden 1888, Wien. NGC UNC Details. Leicht gereinigt. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, Vienna mint. lightly cleaned.)"

The double florin superseded the old thaler and was struck 1859-92 with various busts of Franz Josef.

Recorded mintage: 73,450, a common date.

Specification: 24.69 g, 0.900 fine silver, 36 mm diameter, lettered edge, this specimen 24.74 g.
