Hungary 1888-KB 8 forint
This specimen was lot 807 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 240 CHF (about US$288 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Osterreich, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 8 Forint-20 Francs 1888, Kremnitz. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, eight florins/twenty francs of 1888, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
This type was issued for Hungary 1880-90 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. The denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French twenty francs d'or. Most dates are common. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.
