This specimen was lot 42020 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $8,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 4 Ducats, 1880. Vienna Mint. Franz Joseph I. PCGS MS-62 Prooflike. A RARE original striking of a type often encountered as a restrike, this nearly-Choice specimen glistens with an abundance of alluring brilliance in the fields and frosting imparted unto the devices, the sum of which is a captivating cameo-like nature." This type was struck 1872-1915 in substantial numbers but the 1915 restrike is most commonly seen.
