Austria 1879 ducat Fr-493
This specimen was lot 1652 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$470 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1879, Wien. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ducat of 1879, Vienna mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1872-1914 and is common. The SCWC notes that more were restruck after World War One but does not state which dates. No mintmark appears on this type. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types.
