Sincona sale 54, lot 1063

This specimen was lot 1063 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$387 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1877, Wien. FDC. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ducat of 1877, Vienna mint. Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1872-1914 without mintmark. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. The SCWC notes that more were restruck after World War One but does not state which dates.

Recorded mintage: 822,508, a common date.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .109 troy oz AGW, 19.8 mm diameter, this specimen 3.49 g.
