Steve Album sale 51, lot 2837

This specimen was lot 2837 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA: Franz Joseph I, 1848-1916, AR 2 florin, 1877, nicely toned, XF-AU." The double florin superseded the old thaler and was struck 1859-92 with various busts of Franz Josef.

Recorded mintage: 105,057, a common date.

Specification: 24.69 g, 0.900 fine silver, .714 troy oz AGW, lettered edge, 36 mm diameter.
