Austria 1839-E ducat Fr-226
This specimen was lot 6750 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Ducat, 1839-E. Karlsburg Mint. PCGS Genuine--Bent, AU Details Secure Holder. Austrian type. Slightly bent, nicely struck with nearly full mint luster. From the Mezo-Toth Kalman Collection." This type was struck 1837-48 in substantial numbers from Vienna (Fr-481), Kremnitz (Fr-225), Karlsburg (shown here) and Venice. Some authorities list this issue under Hungary but it differs only in mintmark from the Vienna product.
