This specimen was lot 72516 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 1/2 Taler, 1822-A. Vienna Mint. Franz II. NGC MS-62. An excellent example of the type with a good deal of underlying luster behind a steel gray toning. Completely charming and wholesome, this minor should garnish spir[i]ted attention." This half thaler was struck for emperor Francis I 1817-24 from six mints (A, B, C, E, G, V). Mintages, where recorded, are generally small (<100,000).
