Austria 1815-C thaler
This specimen was lot 20415 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $862.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria. Emperor Franz I Taler 1815-C, MS64 NGC, full mint brilliance with exceptionally blemish-free surfaces - no adjustment marks or flan flaws. Rarely seen in this elevated designation." This type was struck 1811-15 at various mints, including Vienna (mintmark "A"), Kremnitz (mintmark "B"), Hermannstadt (mintmark "C", shown here) and Nagybanya (mintmark "G"). Some of the dates are rare but this one seems to be fairly common. Thalers were struck to this standard until 1856 then replaced by a smaller coin struck 1857-68.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
