Künker Auction 441, lot 4840

This specimen was lot 4840 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,064 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Reichstaler 1741, Wien. R Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Erworben 1953 aus der Sammlung H. Welek. Bei dieser Prägung handelt es sich um den ersten Wiener Halbtaler von Maria Theresia, der daher auch Antrittshalbtaler genannt wird. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half thaler of 1741, Vienna mint. Rare, handsome patina, minor planchet defects, about extremely fine. This striking represents Maria Theresia's first Viennese half thaler and is therefore also known as the "Accession Half Thaler.")"
