Austria 1738 3 kreuzer KM-1659
This specimen was part of lot 4837 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €360 (about US$495 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Karl VI., 1711-1740. 3 Kreuzer (Groschen) 1738, Hall. Dazu: 10 Kreuzer 1793 A, Wien. 3,86 g. J. 106. 2 Stück. Stempelglanz und vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines sächsischen Naturwissenschaftlers. (Holy Roman Empire, Charles VI, 1711-40, three kreuzer or groschen of 1738, Hall mint, with a ten kreuzer of 1793, Vienna mint. Two pieces, uncirculated and extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
In 1738, groschen were struck at Vienna (KM 1606), Graz (KM 1627) and Hall (KM 1659, shown here). All have a low catalog value but the Hall product seems to be the most available even tho it is a one year type. At this time, one thaler was thirty groschen.
Recorded mintage: 186,000.
Specification: 1.6 g, silver, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 1,62 g.
