Jean Elsen sale 137, lot 1137

This specimen was lot 1137 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it sold for €460 (about US$640 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Joseph Ier (1705-1711), AR Taler, 1707, Hall. Pour le Tyrol. D/ B. l., dr. et cuir. à d. R/ Grand écu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. presque Superbe. (Austria, Joseph I, 1705-11, silver thaler of 1707, Hall mint, struck for Tyrol. Obverse: laureate, draped and armored bust to right; reverse: large crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. about Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck at Hall 1705-07 and 1710 and is somewhat scarce. Other thalers for 1707 include Vienna (Dav-1013) and Prague (Dav-1025).

Recorded mintage: 429,000.
