This specimen was lot 1085 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 14,000 CHF (about US$21,101 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Erzherzog Ferdinand II. 1592-1618. Dukat 1598, Graz. FERDINANDVS - (Rosette) - D G.ARCHIDVX Stehender geharnischter Kaiser von vorn. Rv. AVSTRI(AE).DVX - BVRG.STYRI(AE) Gekröntes Wappen mit dem Pantherschild und der Kette vom Goldenen Vlies, die Krone teilt die mindere Jahreszahl. Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Ferdinand II, 1592-1618, ducat of 1618, Graz mint. Obverse: armored figure of the emperor standing; reverse: crowned arms, order chain around, the crown dividing the date. Extremely rare, Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck at Graz 1598-1600 and 1608-18. Numerous other Austrian ducats exist for 1598. Ferdinand became emperor himself on Matthias' death in 1619 and vigorously prosecuted the Thirty Years War against the Protestants.
