This specimen was lot 45298 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Sovereign, 1906-S. Sydney Mint. Edward VII. NGC EF Details--Mount Removed." The mount in question was on the center of the reverse; this specimen was likely one of a pair of cuff links. This type was struck 1902-10 at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, which were not used to strike Australian coins until 1916. Most of the dates are common. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
