This specimen was lot 1958 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA: Edward VII, 1901-1910, AV ½ sovereign, 1908-M, PCGS graded AU58." In a rare cataloguing error, this specimen is actually 1907-M. This type was struck 1902-10 at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, which were not used to strike Australian coins until 1916. Most of the dates are common but this one is scarce. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
Recorded Mintage: 400,000 for 1907-08.
Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold.
Catalog reference: KM-14, S-3975.
