Australia 1900-S sovereign

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72013

This specimen was lot 72013 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1900-S. NGC MS-64. Nicely struck with good luster and excellent eye appeal." The Sydney and Melbourne mints issued large quantities of these "old head" sovereigns 1893-1901 with the Perth mint contributing starting in 1899. This is a common date.
