Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 44027

This specimen was lot 44027 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1900-M. Melbourne Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. A well struck Sovereign with satiny luster and medium honey golden color." The Sydney and Melbourne mints issued large quantities of these "old head" sovereigns 1893-1901 with the Perth mint contributing starting in 1899. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 4,305,000 plus proofs.
