This specimen was lot 33353 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "Australia. Victoria gold 1/2 Sovereign 1887-M MS62 NGC, Melbourne mint, From an original mintage of 54,858 pieces across all the JEB varieties, finding Mint State survivors is a rare and celebrated occasion. Mild wisps in the fields are capping the grade from loftier designations, but do little to detract from the considerate shimmer embellished by dapples of cranberry red tone." While this type is moderately priced in well circulated condition, nice specimens are few and expensive. The type was struck 1887-93 at Sydney and Melbourne.

Recorded mintage: 134,000 plus proofs, including the young head (Fr-12).
