Argentina 1962 peso rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a type struck 1957-59 for Argentina at the Buenos Aires mint. All dates are common. This issue is, in fact, the final type of peso; coinage of the denomination was suspended in 1962 as inflation had rendered it useless. The coinage was reformed in 1970, 1983, 1985 and 1992. Argentina was to suffer from bouts of hyperinflation for the next forty years, impoverishing a once prosperous region.

Recorded mintage: 30,006,000.

Specification: 6.41 g, nickel plated steel, 25.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 57.
