This specimen features Oudiné's portrait of Liberty first used on the silver peso of 1881-83. This issue is, in fact, the final type of peso coin; coinage of the denomination was suspended in 1962 as inflation had rendered it useless. The coinage was reformed in 1970, 1983, 1985 and 1992. Argentina was to suffer from bouts of hyperinflation for the next forty years, impoverishing a once prosperous region.
Recorded mintage: 76,897,000.
