Sincona sale 95, lot 4021

This specimen was lot 4021 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,386 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Appenzell Innerrhoden, 20 Kreuzer 1740, Appenzell. Doppeladler mit Schild auf der Brust, darin ein nach links schreitender Bär. Rv. Wertangabe in vier Zeilen. Schräg gerippter Rand. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes sehr schön. Leichte Prägeschwäche. Hübsche Patina. Exemplar der Slg. Schweiz, Teil 4, Auktion LHS 94, Zürich, Oktober 2012, Los 3427. (Switzerland, canton of Appenzell, twenty kreuzer of 1740, Appenzell mint. Obverse: double headed eagle with cantonal arms on its breast; reverse: value and date in cartouche. Rare in this condition, Good Very Fine, Slightly weakly struck. Attractively toned.)"

This billon type was struck 1738 only and is very scarce. One thaler was 120 kreuzer.
