Anhalt-Bernburg 1742-IIG 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 2025 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €300 (about US$425 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · ANHALT-BERNBURG, FÜRSTENTUM Victor Friedrich, 1721-1765. 2/3 Taler 1742, Stolberg. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. (Germany, principality of Anhalt-Bernburg, Victor Frederick, 1721-65, two-thirds thaler of 1742, Stolberg mint. Small planchet defects, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1727-30, 1733, 1742, 1744, 1747 and 1750. The prince did strike thalers in this period but they are rare and expensive, so most collectors have to make do with these gulden. The convention thaler was introduced in this decade and the gulden reduced from two-thirds to half a thaler.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 13,05 g.
