This specimen was lot 39004 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "ALBANIA. Franga Ari, 1927-R. NGC MS-66. A superb gem by any measure, with a scattering of anthracite tone atop lustrous surfaces bearing testament to the fully original nature of the coin. Sharp details throughout, a coin that is sure to raise the prestige of the collection it enters." This type was struck for the republic of Albania in 1926-27 when president Ahmet Zogu, with the help of Italy, attempted to bring financial stability to a war-torn country.
