This specimen was lot 70092 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "ALBANIA. 20 Franga Ari, 1927-R. Rome Mint. NGC MS-62. A most elusive two year type with sparkling golden color. The next year Ahmed would proclaim himself king." This type was struck for the republic of Albania in 1926-27 when president Ahmet Zogu, with the help of Italy, attempted to bring financial stability to a war-torn country. Mussolini invaded and occupied the country in 1939.
