Albania 1927-R 20 franga ari

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70092

This specimen was lot 70092 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $660. The catalog description^[1] noted, "ALBANIA. 20 Franga Ari, 1927-R. Rome Mint. NGC MS-62. A most elusive two year type with sparkling golden color. The next year Ahmed would proclaim himself king." This type was struck for the republic of Albania in 1926-27 when president Ahmet Zogu, with the help of Italy, attempted to bring financial stability to a war-torn country. Mussolini invaded and occupied the country in 1939.
