This specimen was lot 40404 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,292. The catalog description[1] noted, "ALBANIA. 5 Franga Ari, 1926-R. NGC MS-64. Star below bust." This type was struck for the republic of Albania in 1926-27 when president Ahmet Zogu, with the help of Italy, attempted to bring financial stability to a war-torn country. This coin is a favorite with collectors as it is the only silver crown of Albania (discounting recent NCLT's) and because it is Davenport #1.

Recorded mintage: 60,000 (with and without star below bust).

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, designed by Giuseppe Romagnoli.

Catalog reference: KM 8.2, Dav-1.
