Ajman 1969 2 riyals
This specimen was lot 3407 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "AJMAN: Rashid Bin Hamad al-Naimi, 1928-1981, AR 2 riyals, 1969/AH1389, denomination within circle // chicken below state emblem, proof striking, a superb quality example, PCGS graded PF68 Cameo." Altho the auctioneers, the SCWC and Numista unite in calling the bird on the reverse a chicken, it is not a chicken but a partridge, most likely Alectoris melanocephala or Alectoris chukar. All of Ajman's coinage was struck 1969-70. The sheikdom joined the United Arab Emirates and coinage ceased. Gamal Nasser (1918-70), president of Egypt 1954-70, was the hero of Arab nationalism and the resistance to Israel. His pharaonic rule set the pattern for Egyptian leaders to this day.
Recorded mintage: 20,000 plus 1,200 proofs.
Specification: 6.45 g, 0.835 fine silver, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM-2.1.
