Steve Album sale 54, lot 2075

This specimen was lot 2075 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Shuja', 5th reign, 1839-1842, AR rupee, Ahmadshahi (= Qandahar), AH1255, first issue, with the long couplet on the obverse, full mint & date, bold VF, R." This type was struck AH 1255-1258. Shah Shujah also struck rupees at Kabul with a weight of 11.50 g. In 1809, Shah Shujah was overthrown in battle and exiled. He was reinstalled in Kabul in 1839 by the British and the Sikhs and made himself unpopular with the gruesome vengeance he took upon his perceived enemies. He was ambushed and assassinated in 1842 by his godson.
