Stephen Album sale 50, lot 2306

This specimen was lot 2306 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Ayyub Shah, 1817-1829, BI rupee, Ahmadshahi, AH1238, finest example of this type and mint that we have seen, XF, R." This scarce coin is credited to Ayyub Shah (r. 1819-23, d. 1837) in the SCWC, and was struck AH 1236-1239. Ayyub Shah was deposed by the Barakzais in 1823 and spent the rest of his life as their prisoner.
