Steve Album sale 54, lot 2066

This specimen was lot 2066 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Mahmud Shah, 1801-1829, AR rupee, Derajat, AH1217 year 2, a pleasing example, VF, R, ex SARC Auction 13 Lot 913." This rupee was struck years 1 thru 2 and is somewhat scarce. Other mints included Herat and Kashmir, which are more common. Derajat was a part of Baluchistan, now in Pakistan. Wikipedia comments,

"Mahmud Shah Durrani (born Mahmud Mirza Durrani; c. 1769 – 18 April 1829) was the fourth ruler of the Durrani Empire. He reigned from 1801 to 1803 and again from 1809 to 1818. From 1818 to 1829, he ruled Herat."
