Afghanistan AH 1203(16) rupee KM-563
This specimen was lot 2280 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Taimur Shah, 1772-1793, AR rupee, Kashmir, AH1201 year 16, splendid strike, without any weakness, NGC graded MS62." Taimur Shah struck rupees at Peshawar (KM 703), Kashmir (KM 563, shown here), Derajat (KM 353), Mashhad (KM B640), Multan (KM 653) and Herat (KM 383.2). This mint is known for regnal years 1 thru 20 (AH 1187-1208); this example is AH 1203, not AH 1201 (regnal year 13-14). Taimur Shah was the second Durrani king and had to contend with rebellious tribal chiefs and the Sikhs, who had seized Multan, Lahore and Sindh. He left many sons, who fought among themselves for the throne while the kingdom broke up.
