Sincona sale 68, lot 5023

This specimen was lot 5023 in Sincona sale 68 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$3,160 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Aargau | Kanton, 5 Batzen 1812, Bern. Seltener Jahrgang. Fast vorzüglich. (canton of Aargau, five batzen of 1812, Bern mint. Rare date, About extremely fine.)"

This type was also struck 1814-15 and is fairly available in circulated condition. Ten rappen made a batzen and forty batzen made a thaler.

Recorded mintage: 73,000.
