Aachen 1753 marck
This specimen was lot 70648 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Aachen. Marck, 1753. PCGS MS-63. A well made minor that is SCARCE in any grade and almost never seen in this level of preservation. As such, it is no wonder that it is the sole finest certified with PCGS or NGC. Dark toning can be found throughout with an abundance of underlying luster and brilliance." The city of Aachen, on the border between Germany and the Netherlands, issued no thalers during the eighteenth century. This one year type is the last of its denomination. Forty eight marck made a thaler.
