Künker sale 354, lot 5177

This specimen was lot 5177 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,784 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AACHEN, STADT, Dukat 1646, mit Titel Ferdinands III. GOLD. R Leicht gewellt, sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Münzzentrum Rheinland 156, Köln 2010, Nr. 3041. (Germany, city of Aachen, ducat of 1646, struck in the name of Ferdinand III. Rare, lightly wavy, very fine.)"

The city of Aachen on the border between Germany and the Netherlands, issued little gold during the seventeenth century.
